Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine-based approach to treating a variety of conditions by triggering specific points under the skin through the insertion of small diameter needles in a minimally invasive method to stimulate nerve-rich areas. This in turn will influence tissues, gland, organs, and various functions of the body. Each acupuncture needle produces a tiny injury at the insertion site, and although it’s slight enough to cause little to no discomfort, it’s enough of a signal to let the body know it needs to respond. This response involves stimulation of the immune system, promoting circulation to the area, wound healing, and pain modulation by increasing oxygen rich blood to those areas.
The Chinese philosophy behind acupuncture is a bit more complicated, as the ancient practice isn’t traditionally based in science and medicine. They believed that the human body was filled with and animated by an invisible life-giving force which they called ‘qi’ (pronounced ‘chee’) and when the qi was flowing well and going to all the right places, then a person would experience good mental and physical health. Thus if the person was ailing the qi was not flowing correctly and acupuncture is the tool to help the qi flow correctly.
So what will acupuncture do for you? If you are in pain, it can help reduce or eliminate the pain without the use of any form of drugs. If you are sad, anxious, depressed, or suffer from PTSD it can help reverse the brain stimulation that fosters those types of feelings and produce a more even and calming effect to your being. If you want to lose weight acupuncture can help with the entire digestive track and balance out your total gut health to help you boost your metabolism, control your appetite, and keep you regular and cleaned out, which in turn helps your body actually crave food that is healthier for you.
Other aspects of continued acupuncture treatment can include neurological issues or neuropathy, acupuncture can help relieve the pain and/or bring back feeling and the use of those limbs that are affected. If you have Type 1 diabetes acupuncture can keep your numbers in line which will help you decrease your medication. If you have Type II diabetes acupuncture can actually help you reverse it with regular treatment and proper diet. Acupuncture can help with the side effects of most major diseases and conditions and help you live a more normal way of life.
The most glamorous area of acupuncture is cosmetic treatments to tighten, smooth, and help your face and neck radiate with youth. Ken is certified in Cosmetic acupuncture, facial nerve treatment, and facial guasha, cupping, and micro needling. He can help you maintain your youthful exterior for years to come or help you take years off your appearance by helping you tighten the skin and muscular structure of your face and neck through a multifaceted approach. Lines, crows feet, dark circles, double chins, and wrinkles will slowly fade away over time and your face will actually glow with radiance.
